Sompo Canopius – Re/insurance

Sompo Canopius work with SSBN to provide greater understanding of their flood exposure across North America. SSBN provide flood hazard data, models and analytical tools to inform underwriting and allow new locations and products to be offered to brokers and clients.

The Nature Conservancy - Conservation

The Nature Conservancy is a US based environmental organisation aiming to conserve and restore natural environments.  Among their projects, The Nature Conservancy are exploring the possible restoration of wetland systems that have been adversely impacted by flood defence structures. SSBN have built bespoke large scale models that allow The Nature Conservancy to explore floodplain connectivity and identify structures that may be removed.

Remote Sensing Solutions - Space technology and research

SSBN and Remote Sensing Solutions (RSS) have collaborated on numerous projects, including the Open Geospatial Cosonsortium  Test Bed 11 (see below). The partnership between SSBN and RSS focusses largely on how the latest developments in remote sensing be utilised in flood modelling. As in the case of Test Bed 11, SSBN and RSS also work together to develop different forms of geospatial information across different regions. These data, ranging from large scale models in Africa to high resolution data in the US, have been used to refine and develop international standards for geospatial information.

World Bank

"

RSS is a commercial R&D company operating in the fields of radar systems and applied sciences. We work with SSBN on a number of projects involving their high-end flood modelling expertise. We are pleased and excited to be working with them...amongst other work, they assist us on OGC projects, several NASA-funded projects and work with Google Inc.

World Bank - International Development

SSBN has worked with the World Bank on numerous projects. Our expertise building robust flood models in data poor regions are particularly suited to organisations working in developing regions. These projects include, the Caribbean Handbook on Risk Management (CHARIM), bespoke modelling in Vietnam and Think Hazard!

ImageCat - Re/insurance

SSBN flood hazard layers are available via a number of platforms including Inhance, the exposure data analysis and visualisation platform from ImageCat. The partnership between SSBN and ImageCat enables re/insurers to incorporate flood hazard data, with global coverage, into their own catastrophe underwriting and exposure management processes. Licensees can automatically produce reports for underwriting, accumulation control and capital management that are derived from world leading flood hazard data. The availability of these tools fill an important gap, particularly for re/insurers looking to expand into emerging markets.

Re/insurers can now overlay detailed flood hazard maps over their risk locations in Inhance, so they get a better understanding of risk selection and pricing, and identify their peak exposures in territories where they want to grow
